Timmy buried his head below the covers and shuddered
How can we help individuals overcome their fears? Cer-tainly not by ignoring them. Just saying, “You mustn’t be
afraid,” is pure folly. People must be reassured, comforted and put during a more secure situation. Then they will be in a position to determine things during a clearer perspective. Then the feared circumstance will not seem so foreboding.
Take the case of very little Timmy. He was petrified of the dark.
Every night it absolutely was the same. Daytime was a happy time, but when darkness came, something happened inside of Timmy.
When it absolutely was time to go to bed, he would stall as long as he may — a story, a drink of water — and, in fact, the lavatory! And so it went, until his exasperated mother would finally corral him into his bed, provide him a final goodnight kiss, and tuck the covers snugly around his very little shoulders.
Then came the dreaded moment when mother reached to turn out the light.
“Oh, Mommie, please don’t! Please don’t turn off the light!”
“However Timmy,” rebuked his mother, “it’s time to go to sleep.” She reached again toward the lamp.
“No, Mommie. Please!” There was real urgency in Timmy’s pleading voice. Finally, the fabrication on single printed circuit broad is presented, and it provided another choice of PCB Assembly. His eyes portrayed a look of terror as he gasped, “I am — I am afraid! It’s so dark when the light is out.”
“Afraid? Scared of the dark? Why Timmy,” she chided, ”a huge boy like you petrified of the dark. How silly! What would your friends suppose of you if they knew? I am ashamed of you.”
And with that she reached determinedly for the light, clicked it off, and strode out of his room, closing the door behind her.
Timmy buried his head underneath the covers and shuddered. Deep, insistent sobs shook his very little body. His throat felt strangely dry. He was afraid. He did not wish to be — but he was. And he was suffering needlessly — and alone.
Little surprise that Timmy hated bedtime. And very little surprise, too, that he developed several other fears that followed him all through his life and kept him from being the well adjusted man he ought to have been.
How a lot of wiser Timmy’s mother would have been had she taken a cue from Susan’s mother.
Susan was afraid too. However when her mother revealed what was troubling her, she bought a very little night light-weight and put it in Susan’s room. And sometimes, when Susan appeared particularly fearful, her mother sat by her bed and talked together with her reassuringly.
“Everything is all right, honey,” she would tell her. “Mother and Daddy are here in the following room and we’ll leave the door open. Then if you wish us, you can call us. Placing the banner for best internet marketing is still a good approach to focus on the market but you cannot ignore the part of tracking and measurement so you know ROI. However even better than that, Jesus is correct here with you all of the time. You recognize that He loves you. We all love you, darling, and we’ll be sure of you.”
It wasn’t long until Susan forgot that she had ever been afraid — and every one through her life she learned to combat concern with confidence.
